2nd vaccine dose to children from Jan 31

PANJIM: The State health authorities will start inoculating the second dose of Covaxin vaccine to children between the age group of 15 and 18 years from January 31. 

The second vaccine dose will be given to those children who have completed 28 days of their first shot. 

As a part of nationwide drive, the State government started vaccinating children between the age group of 15 and18 years from January 3 onwards. The targeted population was 72,000. 

Speaking to Herald, State Immunisation Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar confirmed that the children will be given their second vaccine shot from January 31 onwards. 

“Those children who have completed 28 days after taking first vaccine dose, will be eligible for second shot,” he said. 

Borkar said that around 80 per cent of the targeted children have taken their first shot of vaccine. 

“We will be receiving more slot of Covaxin vaccines to immunise the children,” he said. 

The vaccination drives are conducted across all the government, aided and private schools. 

In view of surge in COVID-19 cases, the educational institutions are currently shut for offline classes till February 15. 

Students are allowed to come to school to get their vaccine jab only.
