PONDA: Ponda Police busted a prostitution racket in the heart of Ponda town, arresting three persons and rescuing as many girls on Thursday.
According to Ponda Dy SP Sunita Sawant, the police had received information from locals about prostitution taking place in Ponda. Accordingly, at 2 pm on Thursday, the police raided a rented flat at Curtarkar Commercial Arcade next to Canara Bank and arrested three persons, including two females, for running a prostitution racket. Three girls, one of whom is suspected to be a minor, were also rescued. One of the victims is from Ponda taluka, while the other two hail from Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai.
They have been sent to Apna Ghar, Merces, and the police have decided to confirm the age of the girl suspected to be a minor. Those arrested are: Amarish Ashok Khandeparkar, his wife Rani Khandeparkar and Daya Jaya Razia Patel.
