Three persons from Mayem-Bicholim were confirmed to have been infected with Chikungunya, even as another 37 persons are suspected to have been infected with the disease.
The Primary Health Centre on Thursday conducted a health checkup camp in the area, after Mayem Panchayat through a letter had stated that there are several Chikungunya cases in the panchayat area.
About 150 villagers were checked and the health department detected three Chikungunya cases. The health officers also suspected another 37 persons with similar signs of Chikungunya.
During the camp, Dr Shekhar Salkar informed the public about the precautions to be taken to avoid the spread of the epidemic.
Speaking to media, Mayem Panch Anand Naik claimed that in most of the places in the panchayat, at least one person from each family has fallen sick or is having fever.
The health department carried out massive cleanliness drive in the panchayat area and also sprayed insecticides.
