MAPUSA: The North Goa Forest Division’s Panjim Range arrested Suresh Fale, a resident of Sattari; Dhaku Patil resident of Bicholim; and one helper for illegally transporting firewood from Dodamarg to Goa at Mapusa.
Further, they seized a Tata tempo bearing Reg no GA 02 T 7113 along with 7.5 cubic meters firewood.
Sources claimed that since the Sawantwadi – Maharashtra areas are eco sensitive, felling of trees is prohibited but despite this there is rampant felling and transportation of the same, allegedly for bakeries based in Goa. The raiding team was led by Nitin Kunkolkar Deputy RFO Panjim, Atmaram Desai Round Forester, Forest guards Rajguru Tamankar, Shambha Dhurat and Kamlaksh Naik of Panjim Range.
