PANJIM: Two notorious history sheeters were among three persons arrested in a case of attempt to murder at Merces.
Vishal Golatkar, who has cases like assault on a group of domestic tourists at Merces in 2016 besides other serious charges at different police stations; Marcelin Dias and Naresh Naik were arrested by a team of Old Goa Police following a complaint lodged by a family at Merces. While Golatkar and Dias have a string of cases, this is the first case against Naik.
Addressing a press conference at Porvorim on Saturday, Superintendent of (North) Police Chandan Chowdhary informed that the accused initially got into a scuffle with the complainant woman’s nephew and later barged into the house with weapons, on February 17. They also burnt around 11 vehicles parked outside their house.
“They got into a scuffle with the nephew of the complainant and after a while they barged into the house of the complainant and threatened the women. The accused were armed with swords and iron rods. They burnt 11 bikes parked in the open garage in the vicinity,” she said adding “The accused were arrested after an intense search and the arms were seized by the police.”
The FIR has been booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult with intention to provoke breach of peace), 509 (outraging modesty of a woman), 427 (mischief causing damage) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 read with 25 of the Arms Act. The arrested men have been remanded in police custody till Sunday.
