3 jailbirds injured in Colvale jail clash over distribution of food

Trouble started over the distribution of chicken served on Wednesday night when Ismail Mulla, one of the inmates, asked for more quantity; Mapusa DySP says police have not received any complaint

MAPUSA: Three inmates were injured following clashes inside the Central Jail, Colvale over distribution of food on Wednesday night. However, the incident has not been reported to the police.

The trouble started over the distribution of chicken served on Wednesday night when one of the inmates, Ismail Mulla asked for more quantity. The inmate Sadiq Shaikh, who was serving food with a trolley, refused to give extra chicken stating that he had already been given the quantity. This annoyed the other inmates and soon others joined, resulting in fracas among them.

In the scuffle, three inmates Sadiq Shaikh, Ismail Mulla and Mustafa Shaikh were injured and were referred to the hospital while some others refused to go for medical examination.

The jail officials rushed to the spot and separated the warring groups. They later took the injured to the District Hospital, Mapusa and were later discharged.

When contacted, Mapusa DySP Jivba Dalvi told O Heraldo that no complaint has been received by the police about the incident reported in the Colvale Jail.
