VALPOI: Monkey fever has come to haunt the villagers of Sattari taluka as three persons have been tested positive for the dreaded disease by the Manipal Centre for Virus Research based at Community Health Centre Valpoi.
Confirming the cases, CHC Health Officer Dr Gajanan Naik said all three patients – two from Velguem and one from Budruk were tested positive for KFD. Following treatment at the CHC, the trio was discharged.
“Compared to the last three years, this year KFD cases are less and we have intensified advocacy programmes in all affected villages within our jurisdiction and till date we have vaccinated around 10583 villagers by organising special vaccination drives. On Tuesdays and Fridays we administer KFD vaccination at CHC Valpoi and have also distributed a few ‘DMP’ tick repellent oils in few villages of Sattari and the new oil stock will arrive soon,” informed Dr Naik. Sources informed that three patients who are tested positive for KFD sustained a tick bite as they were working in a cashew plantation in a forest area.
