PERNEM: With no response from the government on the long term demand to pass the Persons of Goan Origin (POGO) Bill, the aggrieved members of Revolutionary Goans (RG) on Friday decided to march to Legislative Assembly Complex to submit the letters signed by thousands of Goans and memorandum to the Chief Minister.
However, three RG leaders including Chief Manoj Parab and President Viresh Borkar were detained by Bicholim and Porvorim Police.
Initially, Porvorim Police detained Manoj as a preventive measure. Later Viresh and member Shreekrishna Parab were also detailed while they were on their way to submit the letters demanding Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to pass the POGO Bill in the on-going Assembly.
“We were supposed to peacefully hand over a memorandum along with the letters at the office of the Chief Minister. Two of our leaders were taken inside at the Secretariat under full police protection after which the staff there refused to accept the memorandum along with the letters. Instead, the duo was taken to the Porvorim Police Station and detained. After a while, the Police Inspector went personally and in warded the memorandum along with the letters at the office of the Chief Minister. Around 2.30 pm, all three of us were released,” said RG Chief Manoj Parab, who condemned this act saying it was mere persecution of the voices of fellow Goans.
