30 households in Bicholim have water disconnected

Action is for releasing waste water into open drains

BICHOLIM: The Bicholim Health Centre has acted tough on 30 residents in the town who haven’t constructed soak pits for water discharge, by having their water disconnected.
Before disconnecting water, the centre had issued notices to several residents from Kumbharwada and other parts of Bicholim for discharging waste water in the open. The centre directed them to construct soak pits, failing which, it warned that their water supply would be disconnected.
Since the residents failed to comply with the notice, their water supply was disconnected on Wednesday. When they realised that their water supply has been disconnected, they rushed to the PWD and questioned about the act.
The PWD engineers told that they just followed the instructions of the health department. “It is true that some of them let the water directly into the gutters. But most of them do not have any place for soak pit and we wonder what they would do,” Nitin Malgaonkar from Bordem said.
“We don’t know when the water would be restored and those who do not have wells, it would be very difficult situation for them,” Nitin stated.
