30 shacks pulled up for violating sound pollution norms

PANJIM: The current tourist season saw 30 shacks pulled up for violating sound pollution norms and serving hookas, besides other illegalities. While 15 notices were issued in Candolim and Calangute, the others were issued in Majorda and Utorda.

The number of violations has reduced by more than 50 percent as records indicate that in 2013-14, Tourism Department had issued 92 show cause notices for various illegal activities in shacks. The department has granted licences to 239 shacks in the north and 102 in the south district, and an additional 19 shacks in both the districts for the current tourist season.
