MARGAO: At least 300 people protested against the demarcation of land for kabrastan opposite Sonsodo at Fatorda. People claim that there is lot of ecological and topographical factors connected to the land which go against any kind of excavation and development and have vowed to keep opposing the same.
People from Raia gathered at the site road with placards urging authorities not to go ahead with the work.
Felix Dias said, “There is something fishy going on here and there is going to be communal problems with the construction of the proposed project, because we don’t know what will be the situation 20 years from now.”
Raia Panch Xavier Fernandes said, “We don’t want kabrastan because the environmental and topographical issues. We have been disallowed to go to the site.”
A local from Raia said that the people from the village will object this project vehemently as they want to keep communal harmony in the area intact. “We will continue to oppose the project of kabrastan on this land,” he said.
