margao: The conservation of 300 year old documents having immense historical significance was undertaken and completed recently in Chandor.
The documents in the Sara Fernandes house at Chandor were recently restored with the support from Aldrin Coutinho and Defa Coutinho (Founders of United Front of Navelim). This initiative was taken up by Yogesh A. Nagvenkar (Founder of History Lovers Group) towards the preservation of the archival heritage of Goa for posterity.
The 300 year old documents were in a very bad condition.
With the permission of the owner Ranjeet Fernandes, these documents were systematically compiled and handed over to the restoration team experts to restore the documents using professional restoration procedures. The restoration was done by Renaissance Conservators. The compiled documents can be seen at the Sara Fernandes Museum at Cotta, Chandor.
“Saving and restoring Goan heritage is my mission for life,” said Yogesh. He added that the documents included, property documents, letter correspondence, confessions, tax receipts, notices. The documents were written in Marathi and Portuguese script.
