Niece molestation accused gets bail

MARGAO: The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao on Tuesday released on bail the uncle who was accused of allegedly molesting his 24-year-old niece. The court remanded the victim’s 45-year old father to seven days in police custody. The Margao police on Monday arrested the duo, both residents of a village from Salcete after a complaint was filed. Both have been booked under sections 342, 376, 506(ii) read with 34 IPC. The accused father is alleged to have wrongfully confined the mentally challenged daughter since December 2010 till January 23, 2013 and had sexual intercourse with her on various occasions for the past two years. The uncle was accused of molesting the girl on several occasions.

Dowry harassment case registered

MARGAO: Margao Police Station PSI Sudiksha Naik on complaint by Maqdhavi Abijit Korane, Kholapur at residing at Novovado, Gogol, Margao on  late Monday evening registered an offence  under section 498-A IPC and section 4 of Dowry Prevention Act against her husband Abhijet Korane, mother-in-law Rekha, father-in-law Kishor and brother-in-law Ashutosh, all residents of Kholapur, Maharastra. In her complaint, Madhavi has alleged that between December 20, 2008 and January 28, 2013 she was subjected to cruelty by the accused demanding dowry. 

Falsification accused gets advance bail

MARGAO: South Goa Additional District and Sessions Judge Desmond D’Costa on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to Adil Ismail Shaik, Head Land Sada, Mormugao who is wanted by the Vasco police for offence under sections 465, 468 and 471 of IPC. The court directed accused to give bail bond of Rs 20,000 and like amount surety and that he reports to investigating officer at Vasco police station for next five days. Shaik is working as watchman at Mormugao Municipal Council since March 12, 2012 and he is alleged to have given a false education certificate at the time of recruitment. In his anticipatory bail application Shaik stated that he was appointed by then chairperson Suchitra Shirodkar and Councilor Nitin Chopdekar. He also alleged that he had allegedly paid Rs 4.70 lakh to Shirodker through one Peter to be distributed between members and chief officer for appointing as watchman. 

Murder accused acquitted 

MARGAO: The South Goa Additional District & Sessions Judge, Desmond D’Costa on Tuesday acquitted Rajaram alias Raju More of Baroda, Gujarat of the offences under Section 302 and 392 read with 34 IPC. The state was represented by Public Prosecutor (PP) B Gaonkar while accused More was represented by Adv Julius Gomes. In his order, Judge D’Costa said the prosecution has failed to prove the guilt of the accused under section 302 and 392 read with 34 IPC. It was the case of prosecution that the accused More on December 19, 2004 along with absconding accused Sahil Khan with their common intention befriended the deceased Mukesh Kumar Sharma, 23 working at National Power Corporation Plant, Kaiga, Karwar as engineer who came to Margao to collect Rs 30,000 and after dinner brought the deceased to Shiva Bar, Colmorod where More committed murder of Sharma strangulating him with wire and robbed his gold chain, ring, shoes, cash Rs 1,500 and mobile. He later vanished from the bar on a motorcycle. On the other hand, defense lawyer, Adv Julius Gomes submitted that neither the guilt of accused More in causing the death of any person nor motive has been proved by prosecution. He pointed out that post mortem report was done on the body of Sahil Khan and the inquest panchanama also recorded that it is the body of Khan.

Priol resident hangs to death

PONDA: A resident of Shirpute-Priol was found hanging to a cashew tree near his residence on Monday. According to Ponda Police, the body of Anil Naik has been preserved in GMC Morgue in Bambolim for post-mortem. PSI Mohan Gaude is investigating the case.

Mapusa local held for assault

PORVORIM: Mapusa Police arrested a man from Morod-Mapusa on charges of assaulting a resident of Housing Board, Mapusa. According to Mapusa Police, Bhima Patil complained that accused Siddhu Virdikar and another person trespassed into his property and abused him. The complainant further stated that the accused assaulted him and also threatened with dire consequence. Police arrested Virdikar and was later released on bail. Criminals posing as cops rob woman

OLD GOA: Two persons impersonating as ‘cops’ stole a mangalsutra worth Rs 1.22 lakh from a doctor on Monday. According to Old Goa Police, Dr Jotsna Singh Verdi (59) from Cabesa, St Cruz, complained that two persons impersonated as ‘police personnel’ and stole her gold Mangalsutra worth Rs 1.22 lakh and fled from the site on a motorcycle. ASI S Sawant is investigating the case.

Motorcyclist injured at Merces Circle

OLD GOA: A motorcyclist was injured when he was hit by a speeding car near the Merces Circle. According to Old Goa Police, Sumit Raikar from Torda-Porvorim complained that the car (GA-03-K-5728) which was proceeding from Panjim to Margao dashed against the parked motorcycle (KA-3-D-9531). The motorcycle rider sustained fracture to his foot. ASI S A Naik is investigating the case.

PANJIM: Ambelim gram sabha will be held on February 3, at 9.30 am in the Panchayat hall. Villagers may forward their suggestions in writing on or before January 30.
