Free diabetes camp held at Calangute                

Vintage Hospital as part of its social responsibility organized a free diabetes camp with eye checkup at Tito’s Healthcare, Calangute on June 23. This camp was held in association with Village Panchayat Calangute. 

Patients were examined by Dr Rufino Monteiro, Dr Nolan De Souza, Dr Lloyd Souza,  Dr Oswald D’Sa, Dr Suresh Dubhashi, Dr Fenton De Souza and other doctors from Vintage Hospital.

Around 200 people took advantage of this camp. Free glycosylated hemoglobin and blood sugar tests were done. Free medications were also given to senior citizens. Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Joseph Sequiera and Calangute Sarpanch, Geeta Parab and other Panchayat members were also present at the camp. Dr Tito’s Healthcare is now managed by Vintage Hospital.

At E-Lobby SBI offers self service facilities which include ATM withdrawals, cash deposits, Card-to-Card transfers, mobile top-ups, Indian Railway booking, passbook printing, NEFT, make a donation, opening of FD/RD accounts, SMS alerts, fund transfers, cheque drop box, bill payments and mini statements. E-lobby serves banking needs 24×7 on a priority. 

Tumour removed from  3-year-old at RG

PANJIM: A 3-year-old girl successfully underwent a major surgery for removal of left sided kidney cancer at RG Stone Hospital. This operation called Radical Nephro Ureterctomy was performed for fatal kidney cancer of childhood called as ‘Wilms’ Tumour. The operation was performed by Dr Sanjay Khope and his team of Dr Vardhan Bhobe, Dr Neena Phaldessai, Dr Hemchadra Mayeker and Dr Ramu Bhat and the patient is being treated by adjuvant chemotherapy to prevent recurrence. Dr Khope stated that surgeries in children have now become safer and they now conduct such surgeries under regional anesthesia without need for general endotracheal anesthesia. 

SSC and HSSC students to be feted

MARGAO: The Joseph Afonso Memorial Trust, Betalbatim will hold its 19th annual felicitation of Goa Board top rankers in SSCE and HSSC on July 21 at Dr Jose Cota Memorial hall, opposite Betalbatim Church at 10 am.

Schools desirous of participating may send in their entries to Trustee Franklin Fernandes on mobile phone 9822104181 or to Teacher Lorraine Godinho at St Jude’s High School, Betalbatim by July 9. An elocution competition will be held on the subjects: Will Mopa Airport benefit Goa? Or, Does Goa have a will to solve the Garbage Problem?

The programme held every year rewards meritorious Betalbatim SSCE and HSSCE students. The felicitation programme is preceded by an inter-school competition.

Kisan cards distributed at Chorao

Kisan credit cards distributed

CHORAO: Central Bank of India, Chorao branch, recently distributed 30 Kisan credit cards to farmers from Chorao island.

Credit cards of credit facility of Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 each were distributed during a special function at Chorao. Central Bank Chorao organised the farmers meet at Chorao Panchayat hall to distribute the cards. On the occasion, Bank Regional Manager Pradeep Salvatore informed farmers that Central Bank will help village farmers. He also explained the financial benefits and various schemes of the government.Deputy Regional Manger A K Senapati explained the schemes and asked farmers to take benefit from Central Bank.

Chorao Farmers Club President Premanand Mahambre and Varon-Patramona Khazan Association President Ganesh Govenkar spoke on the occasion. Other present were Farmers Club Secretary Shankar Chodankar and Chorao Parish Priest Gabrial Cutinho. Chorao Central Bank Manager Priyanka Chowdhary welcomed the gathering and also proposed the vote of thanks, while assistant Manager Sudhir Walavlikar compered the function.

Green Triangle Society panel elected

PANJIM: The board meeting of newly-elected board members of Green Triangle Society was held on June 28. Manguirish Pai Raikar was elected chairman for 2013-2015. Sanjay Bhandari was elected treasurer and Sarvesh Parab as programme co-ordinator. S M Paranjape, Chief Inspector of Factories and Boilers will be the Honorary Secretary.

It was decided to celebrate the International Occupational Health Day on July 9 along with the Indian Occupational Health Association. Dr Gulwadi, President of IOH India, would be the key note speaker. It was also decided to host the 11th National Conference in Panjim on September 27. Dr Pradeep Padwal would be the Chairman of the organizing Committee. The Safety Awards for the year 2013 would be held this year. A committee under the chairmanship of S S Prabhudessai along with Vivek Marathe and Anant Pangam would be evaluating the industries for these awards. A calendar of events would be planned for the year to create awareness on maintaining good environment, to follow safety norms and to upkeep good health parameters. 

Local complains against Shiroda VP

PONDA: A resident of Shiroda has accused the Shiroda panchayat secretary of failing to issue a report of the site inspection conducted by the panchayat in connection with an encroachment in the village.

According to the complaint submitted to Ponda Block Development Office (BDO), Dattaram Shirodkar stated that he had filed a complaint against a resident of Shiroda for alleged encroachment and building a room without obtaining permissions from the panchayat.

Shirodkar, a tenant in the property, claimed that the complaint was filed on March 8 and the panchayat conducted site inspection on March 20. “However, the panchayat secretary has not submitted the inspection report after an application was made on April 1,” stated Shirodkar.

When contacted, Shiroda Sarpanch Sandesh Prabhudessai said there is RTI under which an applicant can ask for the documents and there will be no question of denial as claimed by the complainant.

PC Trust awards

PANJIM: PC Trust invites applications from the past students of Chinchinim schools who are continuing further studies. The special prizes are for students who have passed Std XII Arts, Science in March 2013. Apply to Nelson Lopes Chinchinim by July 15, enclosing Xerox copies of mark sheet, leaving certificate and admission receipt. The highest scorers among the applicants will be considered.

Tree planting drive by ICAR

PANJIM: A tree planting ceremony was conducted in ICAR Research Complex for Goa, Old Goa on June 29. All the scientists, subject matter specialists, technical and supporting staff of the institute and Krish Vigyan Kendra, North Goa took part. A total number of 100 flowering trees like Cassia (Bayo), Bauhinia (Apto), Rain tree, Gulmohar, Plumeria and Kokum were planted along the highway running between Panjim to Belgaum. Dr S K Pandey, Dr P S Sirohi and Dr B Singh planted seedlings during the ceremony under the guidance of Dr N P Singh. All the newly planted saplings and also the ones planted by PWD in front of institute last year will be maintained by ICAR.
