VASCO: Thirty two structures from Vasco, which are in a dilapidated state and declared as ‘unsafe’ have been notices by the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) to vacate the premises for demolition or for minor repairs if possible. This was confirmed by MMC Chief Officer (CO) Gaurish Sankhwalkar who added that personal proceedings with the occupants have been undertaken.
Reacting to the collapse of a wall of one such building named Shreedhar, Sankhwalkar said that they will conduct an inspection and that further action will be initiated accordingly. It is to be noted that there are shops on the ground floor of this building.
Stating that the safety of the people is of utmost importance, MMC Chairperson, Nandadeep Raut elaborated on the risk the building poses given its location in the heart of the town. He added that besides the inspection by MMC, discussions had been held with the CO to seal the building if the occupants do not vacate it soon.
