PONDA: Fear gripped Priol locals as 34 persons were admitted to the Ponda Sub District Hospital with suspected dengue fever.
On learning of the incident, local MLA and Art and Cultural Minister Govind Gaude visited the hospital on Wednesday and inquired with doctors about conditions of the patients admitted with suspected dengue fever.
Doctor Subash Velip assured the minister that there was no danger to the 34 patients, 25 of whom (17 males and 8 females) have already been discharged, and the remaining nine patients (five males and four females) are being cared for well.
Dr Subash Velip informed that though these 34 persons had fever, but they did not test positive for dengue.
Minister Gaude said that though none of the 34 persons tested positive for dengue, still urgent measures should be taken to prevent the disease. He suggested cleaning of bagayats so that water does not stagnate there. “Locals should take care that no water is allowed to stagnate in bagayats during rains which helps breed mosquitoes. Since the State has not received heavy rains so far, mosquitoes are breeding in stagnant rain waters,” he said.
Gaude suggested that the sub-district hospital doctors inspect Priol on Thursday and create awareness among the people on how to prevent vector borne diseases.
