MARGAO: Under the Atal Aasra Yogna scheme, 35 beneficiaries from the tribal community in Navelim received the order under the scheme from former MLA Avertano Furtado. The beneficiaries have been sanctioned Rs 1.5 lakh each which will be transferred directly into their account.
This drive has been part of the promise made by Furtado during his tenure. “During my tenure, I spread awareness about this Tribal Welfare scheme. During that time I had received around 350 applications from the people in my constituency. During my tenure, 122 applications were sanctioned. Now 35 applications have been sanctioned,” said Furtado.
He informed that he helped to facilitate sanction a total amount of Rs 1.33 Crore under the scheme.
Earlier, the beneficiaries received Rs 75,000 under the scheme which was increased to Rs 1.5 lakh this year. While almost all the 350 applicants applied for the scheme more than two years ago, some had to wait longer because their documents were not in order. Interestingly, the delay and perseverance paid off. After the amount was increased, their applications were resubmitted by Furtado and his staff.
