PERNEM: Around 35 vehicles were destroyed in a fire reported near a hotel in Malpem Pernem on Saturday.
According to Pernem fire service personnel, they received a call at 12.40 pm informing them that vehicles abandoned near a hotel were on fire. The fire force team immediately rushed to the spot but since it was a massive blaze, Mapusa and Panjim fire teams were pressed into service to bring the fire under control.
However, within half an hour, the Pernem firemen with the help of their Panjim and Mapusa counterparts managed to extinguish the fire.
11 carts, 7 jeeps and 17 personal water crafts abandoned near a hotel located at Malpem, Pernem were destroyed in the fire.
However, the fire service personnel managed to save 20 scrapped jeeps, 5 personal water crafts and 4 boats which were dumped at the spot. The cause of fire is not yet ascertained. The dumped scrap belonged to Coast Guard.
