PANJIM: As many as 3,500 candidates have applied for 24 posts of Junior Scale Officers of Goa Civil Service.
The Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) had recently advertised 24 positions for Junior Scale Officers in the Personnel Department of the Goa government. Many of those who applied are presently working in the government at lower positions and aspire to be selected in this much sought-after position.
The break-up of these 24 positions are one SC, two EWS, four OBC, one ST, two PwD (OH) and one CFF and the balance of 13 posts are for the general category candidates.
In the last six years, the Commission has been finding it difficult to fill these positions owing to the very rigorous processes adopted by it. The general impression is that the examination is difficult and applicants are finding it difficult to clear the screening examination, which is computer-based.
GPSC Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha however clarified that the examination is highly competitive and candidates need to study seriously and it is only with proper preparation that success at the examination may be achieved.
All these candidates will now be subject to a pre-screening examination in the first stage followed by a screening test and a written test.
The candidates selected for the positions are generally appointed as Under Secretary, Assistant Directors, Deputy Collectors etc and this is a highly sought-after position in the government service. Further, those selected in this service are also inducted into the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS) after putting in the required years of service and are subject to the desired performance levels as indicated in their confidential reports.
