PANJIM: The third Mandovi bridge will be handed over to the State government by next week, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) said.
The 4-lane bridge, built at a cost of Rs 483 cr, is nearing completion and will be fully complete by next week, GSIDC vice-chairman Sidharth Kuncoliencar told Herald on Monday.
The former Panjim MLA rubbished reports that the bridge would be handed over on January 18. “We don’t want to hurry up. I don’t know who made the statement but I do not think the bridge would be ready by Jan 18,” he said.
Kuncoliencar said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar visited the bridge on Monday to take the stock of the works. “Besides Chief Minister, corporators from Panjim and Mapusa also visited the bridge,” he said.
Asked why the delay in completion of work as the bridge was to be inaugurated on January 12, he replied, “We do not want to just hurry up with the works. Only the ramps on Panjim sides are to be completed rest everything is complete. The area in Panjim is shallow and there is a possibility of sagging and hence we are taking all measures to avoid that.” He added, “Despite this we know there is a possibility of road sagging.”
Kuncoliencar also said that GSIDC conducted the trial run of unfurling of tri-colour. “We are conducting all tests and trials so that there isn’t any problem during the inauguration,” he said.
