MARGAO: Acting on information by Loutolim Sarpanch Maria Monteiro, Maina Curtorim Police raided a place below old Borim Bridge, Loutolim and attached four empty pickups and arrested its drivers Sikandar M Sheik, Sao Jose de Areal, Kalidas M Usgoikar, Panchawadi, Salvador Fernandes, Orgao-Loutolim, and Rosario D’Souza, Utorda who were later released on bail.
PI Gurudas Kadam informed that he received a call from the sarpanch around noon stating that vehicles were involved in illegal transportation of sand below old Borim Bridge and that she along with deputy sarpanch Cruz Mariano Pereira and talathi Kritesh Naik were at site.
ASI M Deu who was deputed to conduct raid, on reaching the site is said to have found four empty vehicles at the site where sand was stocked. However, the talathi in his report submitted to the Salcete Mamlatdar has claimed that there were also three canoes at the site. An offence under section 32 read with 62(2) of Goa Minor Minerals Mining Act has been registered against the accused.
