OLD GOA: Four persons, including a mother-daughter duo, died, while two others were injured in an accident involving three vehicles along the Patto-Ribandar causeway at about 3.30 pm on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Perpetual Parab (43) and her seven-year-old daughter, Angel, both residents of Taleigao, their neighbour Olga and a youth whose identity was not known.
While Perpetual, Olga and the youth died on the spot, Angel breathed her last while being shifted to GMC Hospital, Bambolim in an ambulance.
The accident, according to reports, took place when Perpetual, Angel and Olga were travelling on a scooter from Old Goa to Panjim and the youth who was travelling in another two-wheeler in the same direction.
As both the two-wheelers passed by Hoble’s restaurant, they were reportedly dashed against by an oncoming Palio car. The impact of the accident was such that the four deceased persons were flung in the mangroves area, while the four-wheeler veered into the river bank on the opposite side.
Two other occupants in the car, Purifacao Fernandes (74) and Milton Fernandes, both from Porvorim, were injured in the accident.
The four deceased persons were washed on the other side of the river by the flowing current and were trapped in a net.
Old Goa police rushed to the site and pulled out the survivors and rushed them to the Goa Medical College and Hospital. The police also brought out the bodies of the three persons and shifted them to the GMC morgue.
Constable Manohar Dulapkar conducted the panchanama and Old Goa Police Sub Inspector Sagun Sawant is investigating the case.
Sawant said that the car driver will be placed under arrest after all the formalities are conducted. The two injured persons, Purifacao and Milton, were discharged after treatment.
