Panjim: As many as four private hospitals in the state have come on board to treat COVID-19 patients, even as the State is gearing up to set up the third dedicated COVID-19 hospital  at the new South Goa District Hospital.

Addressing media persons post the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, stated that the second dedicated COVID hospital, the Ponda sub district hospital has been commissioned and that 27 patients have been shifted.

Sawant added that four private hospitals including Manipal Hospital, Salgaocar Medical Research Centre (SMRC), Healthway Hospital and Apollo Hospital have come on board to treat COVID-19 patients.

“It is a very good move as patients can now opt for private hospital facilities in case they are tested positive for the virus,” he said.

Sawant added that apart from the State-run COVID Care Centres for asymptomatic patients, the Industrial COVID Care Centres have been set up by few industrial units voluntarily with the help of Indian Medical Association (IMA).

He said that IMA is also providing necessary guidance to 980 asymptomatic patients who have opted for home isolation.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane stated that the government is in the process of setting up a third COVID hospital at the new South Goa District Hospital.

He said the CM has given his consent and the process to commission the facility has been initiated.

The Minister said that a dedicated floor will be assigned for all Ante-Natal, Neo-Natal and Post-Natal Covid patients.

Rane urged asymptomatic patients to opt for home isolation rather than going to Care Centres.
