CANACONA: Forty two candidates have filed their nominations for the upcoming Canacona municipal elections as the date for filing nominations ended on Thursday afternoon.
Fearing rejection due to error and others, 17 candidates filed two or more forms, so the returning officer Uday Prabhu Dessai received a total of 59 nominations from 42 candidates.
With 7 candidates– Vaibhav Fal Dessai, Shekar Naik, Sarika Naik, Maruti Komarpant, Shubam Komarpant, Sopan Dhuri and Ashok Pagui—contesting from Patnem ward it tops the count of nominations among the wards.
Ward no. 5 (Kindlem) has nominations from Amita Pagi, Maya Pagui, Roshan Pagi, Sanika Kankonkar and Reema Kankonkar. Ward no. 7 (Rajbagh) received nominations from Ratnakar Dhuri, Rajesh Naik, Gandesh Madgaonkar, Bazil Johnson Pereira and Mangesh Pagi.
From ward no. 2 (Chaudi), Prarthana Naik Gaonkar, Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, Levino Gracias and Hemant Gracias have filed their nominations.
Ward no. 6 (Ponsulem) would be contested by Gilbert Feliciano Fernandes, Wilson Frincisco Fernandes Narciso, Salvador Fernandes and Ajay Kushali Gosavi.
Palolem-2 has also 4 nominations, Laxuman Pagui, Rama Pagui, Divakar Pagi and Kanay Pagi . From ward no. 9 (Bhagatwada) former chairperson Nitu Dessai and Sanija Desai have filed their nominations.
Nagarcem which is ward no. 1 has Hemant Naik Gaonkar who was the vice chairperson in the last council while Ranganath Naik Gaonkar is a former chairperson.
Ward 11 (Devabagh) will have Sara Naik Dessai, Sharmila Dessai and Pratixa Naik Dessai in fray.
Ward no. 3 (Delem-1) is reserved for women has the nominations of Supriya Dessai and Jayashree Shet
Delem-2 (Mastimol) ward no. 4 has two nominations one is from Pandurang (Dhiraj) Naik Gaonkar and other is from Kishore Shet.
Mario Simon Rebello, a former chairperson, and Dayanand Pagi a former vice chairperson are contesting from from ward no. 10 (Palolem-1).
While from ward 12 (Palolem-2) Laxuman Pagui, Rama Pagui, Divakar Pagi and Kanay Pagi have submitted their nominations.
