44 suspected, 5 confirmed dengue cases in Aldona, Shiroda, Ponda & Marcaim this month

MAPUSA: Dengue has raised its ugly head in the jurisdictions of the Aldona, Shiroda, Ponda and Marcaim Primary Health Centres (PHCs), as in all 44 suspected and 5 confirmed cases of the dreaded disease have been reported in September.

Roshan Nazareth, Health Officer of Aldona Primary Health Centre urged the locals to visit the centre for testing if they have symptoms such as fever or cold.

Nazareth stressed the need to maintain surroundings clean and prevent water accumulation to curb mosquito breeding.

“From January to July, there were 36 suspected dengue cases and seven confirmed cases. In August, we recorded 20 suspected cases and 2 confirmed cases. In September, there were four confirmed and 20 suspected cases,” he said.

Meanwhile, 24 suspected ones and one confirmed case have been reported in Shiroda, Ponda and Marcaim PHCs in September so far.

Seven cases were reported in Shiroda PHC, while 9 each were recorded in Ponda and Marcaim PHCs till September 26. The Health Department officials have stressed the need for creating awareness among locals.

Suspected dengue cases in Ponda PHC’s jurisdiction were reported at Kavlem, Durbhat, Khadpabandh, Silvanagar, Khandepar and Prabhunagar. Ponda PHC health officer Dr Smita Parsekar and sanitary inspector Manoj Naik are closely monitoring the situation.

The confirmed case of dengue was reported in Shiroda Primary Health Centre’s jurisdiction.
