45-year-old woman sustains burns

A 43-year-old woman from Paniwada-Borim, Ponda, was seriously injured after she was allegedly set ablaze by her husband at their residence on Thursday afternoon.
Ponda police arrested Hanumant Yellappa Naguur (58) for allegedly attempting to murder his wife, Valgamma, who received 90% burn injuries. Hanumant allegedly poured kerosene on his wife and set her on fire.
Police further informed that Hanumant was an alcoholic and had been abusing his wife regularly. On Thursday at about 2.30 pm, Hanumnat had a confrontation with his wife and in a fit anger, poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze.
Valgamma was rushed to GMC Hospital in Bambolim in a critical condition.
The couple has three sons, who are sent to Apna Ghar in Merces.
Police said that Hanumant was arrested after villagers detained him in the village. Police is investigating the case.
