The Directorate of Health Services on Monday said it has geared up its surveillance machinery to detect and treat H1N1 cases, even as the total count since January this year reached 49 after nine more cases were confirmed positive for the disease.
State Epidemiologist Dr Jose D’Sa said report of 31 swabs received today morning from the National Centre for Disease Control, Delhi, confirmed nine more cases. However, he mentioned, all the nine patients were receiving the necessary anti-viral treatment and have recovered fully, he stated.
The nine cases were from Salcete (5), Tiswadi, Mormugao, Canacona and Quepem (one each). With this latest count of 49, Salcete continues to be the highest in H1NI cases with figures of 20 since the beginning of the year, followed by Tiswadi (10), Mormugao (8), Quepem (3), Ponda (3), Bardez (2), Sanguem (2) and Canacona (1).
Dr D’Sa said medicines are being made available at the health centres wherever cases have been reported. All the health officers are organizing workshops in every block to create awareness about the disease, he stated.
