MARGAO: Pratapsingh Ashok Gharde, 26 years Shivaji Laxman Sovaji, 34, both hailing from Maharastra and who were arrested on Thursday late night by Margao ASI K R Kotharkar under section 420, 506(ii) read with 34 of IPC have been remanded to five days in police custody.
The two accused are alleged to have duped several persons owning earth moving machinery and trucks to the tune of crores of rupees by collecting security deposits with the promise to engage their machines and trucks for 11 months.
Anthony Rodrigues of Panchawadi had filed a complaint that the two accused persons had collected from him an amount of Rs 2.80 lakh as security deposit for engaging earth moving machines and tipper trucks in February. Though the accused promised that work shall commence in 10 days, the duo failed to honour the promise and also refused to return the amount.
Gharde and Sovaji are alleged to have duped 176 persons with promise of hiring their machines or trucks. The duo is alleged to have threatened those approaching them demanding return the of security deposit. Further, those approaching are said to have also been warned that they would be killed by professional supari killers.
