5 injured in mishaps

VASCO: At least five persons were injured in two separate road mishaps on the Zuari Bridge late Thursday night and the wee hours of Friday.

VASCO: At least five persons were injured in two separate road mishaps on the Zuari Bridge late Thursday night and the wee hours of Friday.
According to police reports, the first mishap took place at about at about 11.45 pm, when a Scorpio SUV was proceeding from Cortalim towards Panjim. The Scorpio was reportedly proceeding with powerful headlights, blinding an oncoming scooter rider.
The rider jammed the brakes, but the scooter skidded due to light rains in the area and rammed into the Scorpio SUV. The impact was such that the scooter was damaged, but the scooter driver escaped with minor injuries.
The protective railing of the Zuari Bridge was also damaged and the Scorpio SUV landed on the pedestrian path of the bridge. Agassaim police has booked the Scorpio driver in the connection.
The second mishap took place at about 2.30 am on Friday when one Prashant Halarnkar of Vasco was travelling from Panjim to Vasco in a car allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
The car collided with an oncoming Maharashtra-registered van, seriously injuring four occupants in the van. The injured persons were shifted to GMC hospital and Halarnkar was booked by police on charges of driving in a rash and negligent manner and driving under the influence of alcohol.
