MARGAO: A five-month-old child was found dead in one of the temporary huts near the South Goa district hospital under construction on Thursday evening.
Margao police has suspected that the child might have died due to malnourishment and the exact cause of death will be known only after the post mortem examination on Friday.
District Collector, N D Agrawal, who visited the site and later Hospicio, where the mother of the deceased child is undergoing treatment, suspected that the child might have died of starvation or malnourishment. “The post mortem examination will throw light on the exact cause of death on Friday,” he said.
Margao PI Sudesh Naik said the mother of the deceased child was admitted in Hospicio as she is critically ill. He said the father of the child along with his five-year-old son had gone with his wife to Hospicio at 4 pm on Thursday leaving the baby in the care of their two-year-old daughter.
Police suspect that the deceased child may have died of hunger. The body of the child has been preserved at Hospicio.
