CALANGUTE/TIVIM: Anjuna Police on Monday arrested five tourists from Haryana and Delhi on charges of illegally using red beacons on their car at Vagator. Anjuna Police have also attached two cars in this connection.
According to Anjuna Police, the five tourists were using the red beacon with siren on the car (HR-05-AB-0005) since the last couple of days.
The group had even used the car to attend the Sunburn at Vagator. Police said when locals informed the Anjuna Police about the misuse of red beacon at Ozrant-Vagator at 3 am on Monday, the five tourists were detained.
Police further informed that initially, Bhavesh Yadav (26) introduced himself as the Member of Legislative Assembly. However, when police demanded the identify proof, Yadav failed to produce it and was detained along with four others, while the car along with another vehicle (HR-26-BR-0022) were seized by Anjuna Police.
The group later disclosed that they were friends, who had come down to Goa to take part in the Sunburn at Vagator. They also admitted that they were using the red beacon and siren to get rid of traffic jams and make a fast trip to the venue and in other parts of the coastal belt.
“The group of five had come down to Goa a couple of days to take part in Sunburn, enjoy and have fun,” informed the police. Anjuna Police Inspector Paresh Naik later registered a complaint and Bhavesh Rajesh Yadav, Yetendra Rao (27), Sidharth Singh Yadav (27), all from Delhi, Gautam Rathod (25) and Hariom Khowa (24), both drivers from Haryana, were arrested. A criminal offence under Sections 419, 420 IPC has been registered against the five accused persons.
Anjuna Police is investigating about the ownership of the vehicles. PSI Mahesh Kerkar is investigating the case.
