VASCO: A five-year-old boy died while his father was critically injured, after they were knocked down by a brand new car at Upas Nagar-Sancoale on Monday evening. The car driver has been arrested in this connection.
According to Verna Police, Govind Bandavedekar along with his son, Venketesh, was crossing the four-lane highway at Upasnagar at about 4.30 pm, when the car struck them and dragged them to some distance.
Police said both the father and the son were rushed to Chicalim Cottage Hospital, where Venketesh was declared dead on admission, while Govind was shifted in a critical condition to GMC Hospital.
Police further informed that the car was new and was driven by Rajaksha Gonvalkar (22) of Vasco. Gonvalkar was proceeding from Verna to Vasco and since the car did not have the number plate, the police suspected that it was a new car from a showroom at Verna. Verna Police has arrested Gonvalkar on charges of rash and negligent driving and PSI Hiru Kavlekar is investigating the case.
