MARGAO: Blaming the government for the spike in coronavirus cases and for the increase in number of COVID deaths, South Goa Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha on Wednesday accused Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant of turning a blind eye to the ground reality and asked him to take the people into confidence and move ahead.
“Around 50 people dying on a daily basis due to the virus is just not acceptable particularly in Goa,” he said and lamented that the Chief Minister has turned a blind eye to the reality by not ordering a lockdown. The MP said he appreciated the panchayats on their own opting for lockdowns.
He appealed to the Chief Minister to take everybody into confidence as the pandemic is affecting the entire State and said a joint effort by all may help in containing the spread of the virus.
He opined that there is a scarcity of liquid oxygen as at present there is only one company manufacturing it while earlier there were many.
He lamented that the government never takes him into confidence even though he is willing to support the State in fighting the pandemic.
“I am a Member of Parliament but am never consulted by the State government,” he said.
He appealed to the Chief Minister to clearly announce that the examinations are postponed and new dates will be announced at an appropriate time.
“Everybody is worried about the examinations and the Chief Minister is not making it easy for the people by remaining silent on it,” he said.
Criticising the delay in COVID test results, Sardinha demanded that the same be given immediately or within a day. “The treatment should start immediately when the test result is positive instead of wasting some days as is happening now,” he said.
Congratulating the medical team for their exemplary service, the MP said he has sanctioned one ambulance and a hearse to the South Collector under the MPLAD scheme. Sardinha said he was also willing to provide oxygen if required.
“The BJP government is only giving assurances and how bad they are can be seen from the fact that there are nearly 3,500 COVID cases everyday in Goa while at the national level the daily cases have touched 3.5 lakh,” he said.
