The recently held recruitment drive for the Goans in the Indian Air Force has fetched an impressive outcome with at least 50 Goans clearing the test. Additional Collector (North) Vikas Gaunekar said that around 1100 Goan youth had participated in the rally held at athletic stadium in Bambolim of whom 50 were selected. “The earlier count was only five but this time, we have got a good number of Goans showing their interest to join the IAF,” he told reporters. Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik, who had announced the recruitment rally for IAF, had conceded lack of awareness among the Goan youth to join the defence forces. For the very first time in the State, the IAF held the special recruitment drive exclusively for Goans to join the IAF as ‘Airmen’ and the selection process will be held from August 27-30. Despite low response to such recruitment drives in the State, Naik was optimistic that at least 500 young boys would turn up for the camp.
