Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that the government has drafted a scheme to provide 50% insurance premium to bus drivers and conductors.

PANJIM: Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that the government has drafted a scheme to provide 50% insurance premium to bus drivers and conductors.

“We have kept a budgetary provision of Rs 25 crore for this scheme,” Dhavalikar said, adding that the scheme was necessary to give assistance to bus drivers and conductors who otherwise had no means if they were maimed in accidents and their families received nothing, if they were killed in these accidents.

The minister stayed clear of making any statement on the issue of helmets, despite Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane assuring complete support if the government decided to enforce the compulsory helmet rule within the existing Motor Vehicle Act.
