SANGUEM: The Sarpanch of Wadem village panchayat Sanjog Pai has decried the dumping of over 50 sewing machines in the godown of the Powerloom Centre at Wadem Colony in Sanguem.
He said for the past one year the Handicraft Centre, which used to conduct the tailoring classes for unemployed young women from the village have stopped conducting the classes despite demand for tailoring classes in the village.
Ever since the tailoring classes were stopped, the sewing machines lie dumped in a godown of the Handicraft Centre.
Pai pointed out that if the department does not wish to continue the classes than the sewing machines could have been distributed to the unemployed women in the village, who have completed the course from the department.
He also urged the Handicraft Centre to resume conducting tailoring classes to help unemployed women be self-employed.
