Suvarna Tendulkar, Chairperson of South Goa Zilla Panchayat, convened the District Planning Committee (DPC) meeting on Thursday. The announcement was made regarding the formulation of a comprehensive plan, slated for submission to the government for clearance.
Of the state’s 7 talukas, 8 municipalities, and 89 panchayats, notable progress was reported, with 53 panchayats having already submitted their plans. However, 36 panchayats are yet to fulfil this requirement. Margao Municipality emerged as a standout, being the lone municipality to submit its 2024-2025 plan on Thursday, while 7 others are still pending. Tendulkar stated that a draft consolidating the received plans would soon be forwarded to the government for a thorough review.
Citing Article 243, the imperative implementation of the DPC was highlighted along with Section 239 of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, mandating each panchayat to draft and submit a developmental plan to the Zilla Panchayat. Compliance with a High Court Order was emphasized, requiring the Director of Panchayat to prepare a district development plan for government submission.
