Voters of Baye-Surla in Bicholim had to queue up for the second time in four days, as 53.33 percent of the 810-odd voters exercised their franchise at the reelection, which took place peacefully on Monday.
It may be recalled that the Lok Sabha elections at the Polling Booth 18 of Baye Surla was suspended and re-elections were ordered after the electronic voting machine had developed a technical snag on April 23.
There are 810 voters in Baye Surla, comprising 416 males and 394 females.
As usual, voting commenced at 7 am but voters displayed a lukewarm response in the morning. By evening, 432 voters had exercised their franchise, which included 243 males and 189 females.
The reelection proved to be a blessing in disguise for some at Baye-Surla. While the area received a public holiday, thereby allowing office-goers to take a day off to cast their votes, two prominent candidates Shripad Naik (BJP) and Jeetendra Deshprabhu (Congress) made personal visits to the ward to woo the electorate.
On the other hand, liquor outlets in the constituency had to remain closed for the second round of dry days.
Earlier on Sunday evening, the police were kept on their toes following phone calls complaining that some party supporters were distributing money to voters.
