A 54-year-old man lost his life during a traditional hunting expedition, locally known as ‘Bhovandi’, in Canacona. The incident, which took place on Sunday night, has sent shockwaves through the community.
The victim, identified as Khushali Velip, a resident of Canacona and an employee of Goa Doordarshan, was part of a group of villagers who embarked on the ritualistic hunting expedition in the dense forests of Padi.
As the group pursued a wild boar, tragedy struck when a fellow member mistakenly discharged a firearm, inadvertently hitting Velip. The unfortunate incident occurred around 10 pm last night, leaving Velip critically injured.
Despite being rushed to Margao Hospital for urgent medical attention, Velip was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities have taken swift action in response to the incident, detaining one individual believed to be responsible for the accidental shooting. Investigations are underway into the matter.
