6 migrant huts set ablaze in Kushem

Six huts erected by some migrant labourers have been reportedly set ablaze at Sheller-Kushem in four days.
A visit to the site at Sheller-Kushem, revealed burnt ashes as a witness to the existence of some structures in close proximity of the presently standing shanties in the locality.
According to sources, some migrant labourers, backed by some local contractors, had erected the shanties in a field behind the Canacona Community Health Centre a few years ago and were residing at that place since then.
There are reportedly around 12-15 such huts where migrant labourers reside with their families.
It is reportedly learnt that a few months back, some more migrants from others states arrived at the site and erected some more huts.
It is suspected that the earlier migrant families may have resorted to arson to drive away the newcomers from the area.
Canacona Municipal Council Deputy Chairperson Dilip Kenkre visited the site to take stock of the situation.
