 New Swatch showroom opens in city

PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar inaugurated the Swiss Zeit Trading Co’s new showroom at St Inez, Panjim in the presence of brand manager of Calvin Klein Puneet Mathur, promoters of the store Prakash Shankwalkar and Lata, Akshay and Anaga Shankwalkar. The new store, the ‘Swatch Group Watches Store’ will feature premium watch brands like Swatch, Tissot, Balmain, Calvin Klein and Rado. 
Speaking at the opening of the store which is a dealership for Swatch Group India Pvt Ltd, Dealership owner Prakash Shankwalkar said that he is proud to bring these world renowned watch brands to Goa and was certain that Goans who have a taste for the best brands will patronize the store. 
Shankwalkar also runs Drogaria Ananta, a leading pharmaceutical distribution house and also the franchisee for the Sony exclusive showroom in Panjim.
Theft at Assagao school
CALANGUTE: Two persons, including an ex-student, are accused of having stolen a laptop and a hard disk, both valued at Rs 95,000, from a school at Assagao.
In a complaint with Anjuna Police, Agnel D’Souza of Cuchelim-Mapusa stated that the burglary took place sometime between 10 pm on October 3 and 8 am on October 4, when the two persons entered the school in Assagao area by damaging the glass of the office door and stealing a Dell laptop and a hard disk. An offence under Sections 457, 380, 427 IPC has been registered and PSI V Pilgaonkar is investigating the case.
Woman sets self ablaze, dies
CURCHOREM: An 85-year-old woman from Kamrol-Curchorem is believed to have ended her life by setting herself ablaze at her residence. 
Curchorem police said Kamlavati Naik allegedly committed suicide sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning. An offence under Section 174 CrPC has been registered and Curchorem PSI Ashok Desai is investigating. 
Hit-and-run accused nabbed
PONDA: CCTV footage from the Mollem entry tax booth enabled Ponda police to nab a truck driver at Raichur-Karnataka, in connection with a fatal road accident at Durgini-Dharbandora on September 18.
According to Ponda police, Franzy Raposo (25) of Collem was proceeding on his two-wheeler towards Ponda when he was knocked down by an oncoming vehicle at Durgini-Dharbandora. Raposo is said to have died instantaneously, while the other vehicle involved in the accident fled from the scene. Based on CCTV footage from the Mollem entry tax booth, Ponda police identified the truck and a police team left in search of the truck and the driver, Ayappa Bhimaraya Nayak, along with the truck at Raichur-Karnataka on Saturday.
Two theft cases filed in Panjim
PANJIM: A tourist has lodged a police complaint alleging that unidentified bikers snatched his bag containing cash, ATM, election card and other documents at Campal during the late hours of October 3. Complainant Nirav Kumar could only identity the bike as a Honda Dio that was used to commit the crime by the accused persons. 
In a separate complaint, another tourist from Mumbai has complained that his laptop bag was stolen from an inter-state bus. Deepak Iyer said he could not locate the bag containing laptop, HDFC credit card, ATM card and pen drive after he reached Goa. He has claimed a loss of Rs 40,000 approximately. Panjim police have registered separate FIRs under relevant sections of the IPC.
