MAPUSA: Drishti lifesavers on Wednesday saved six tourists from drowning at Vagator and Calangute respectively.
According to sources, in the afternoon, a tourist from Patna ventured into the sea at the Vagator beach despite being warned by the Drishti lifesavers several times of a rip current. The tourist, a non-swimmer, on experiencing an inward pull of a rip current, cried for help. Drishti lifesaver Balkrishna rushed to the rescue and secured him on a rescue board and brought him back to safety.
In another incident, a 25-year-old Jharkhand native ventured into the sea in a rocky area at Vagator beach. The youth found himself struggling. Drishti lifesaver Suhas Gawas rushed to his rescue and brought him safely to the shore.
At Calangute beach, a group of tourists from Karnataka had gone for a swim together. Among the group of nine individuals, two men ventured into the deep sea and began drowning. On noticing them, Drishti lifesaver Ashwin Ghag relayed a rescue call, which alerted Drishti lifesaver Karan Tandel, who rushed to help. While lifesaver Ashwin secured one victim onto the rescue board, the second victim was saved by lifesaver Karan with a rescue tube. Both the victims were brought back to the shore.
In another incident at Calangute, a 25-year-old youth from Karnataka went swimming and got pulled inside by a rip current. Drishti lifesaver with patrolling jetski operator Leslie Rodrigues rushed to his aid and secured him on the jetski and brought him ashore.
A 24-year-old Karnataka native, who ventured into the sea at the Calangute beach, got caught in a rip current and began to drown. Drishti lifesaver Leslie Rodrigues patrolling around the area on the jetski noticed the youth struggling and secured him on the jetski.
