60 kg of spoiled and unlabelled cashew nuts destroyed

MARGAO: As part of the ongoing exercise launched by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) against the sale of spurious cashew nuts, an inspection drive was carried out to check the quality of cashew nuts in Varca. During an inspection of a shop at Pedda-Varca, it was found that the shop operator named Puri had stocked for sale, approximately 60 kilograms of spoiled, discoloured, damaged and unlabelled cashew nuts, costing an estimated Rs 27,000. The nuts were subsequently destroyed. The inspection was carried out by senior food safety officer Abel Rodrigues along with Sneha Gaude and Abhikash Naik.
