60- year-old raped in city market

In what could be called yet another shameful incident, a 60-year-old woman was raped last night by a 23 year old Mohammed Alif Laila, at Panjim market last night.
According to the police, the lady, who also is a native of Belgaum complained today that last night when she was sleeping in a corridor at the Panjim Market complex, an unknown person came and pulled her bedsheet and raped her.
The lady, who is a widow does not have any children and hence use to do some sweeping job at the complex, to make two ends meet.
Police said the lady was immediately sent for medical checkup which confirmed sexual abuse.
Based on the description, the police arrested the accused Mohammed, who works as a loader (hamali) in the market.
A case under section 376 and section 506 has been registered against the accused.
Police Sub Inspector Tushar Lotlikar is investigating the case under the supervision of Police Inspector Francisco Corte and Sub Divisional Police Officer Sammy Tavares.
This is second rape in last three days after a 55-yr old woman was raped at Arambol.
