600 mining dependents register grievance on ‘NaMo App’

PANJIM: Nearly 600-odd mining dependents have registered their grievance for survival on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official ‘NaMo App’. The dependents have also requested for Prime Minister’s appointment through the app, which is considered as one stop destination to get connected with Modi.
The mining dependents under the banner of Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF) has set target of 10,000 people to register on the app with a demand for immediate resumption of iron ore mining activities, which are shut since last ten months following a Supreme Court order. The closer of activities have rendered nearly three lakh people, dependent on the activity, directly or indirectly, jobless.
The Front, through BJP State and Central leaders, has been seeking for Prime Minister’s appointment, to discuss their grievance and with a demand to restart the mining activities. However, has failed to get the appointment till date.
Speaking to Herald, GMPF leader Puti Gaonkar said that the attempt to register on NaMO app is the last thing we could do to seek Prime Minister’s attention towards our problem. “We have tried everything but got no response from Prime Minister or his government towards resolving the crisis that have hit us due to closer of mining activities,” he said.
Gaonkar said that so far 600 mining dependents have registered their grievances on NaMO app and have demanded for Prime Minister’s appointment.  “We want Prime Minister to hear our cries. Three lakh people will have to cry for survival if mining industry does not resume at the earliest,” he said.
The Union leader recalled how nearly thousand people protested at Jantar Mantar and Ram Leela Maidan in December, last month, to mount pressure on Central government to amend the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulations) Act 1957 to extend the life of leases to 2037 paving way for commencement of mining industry, during the ongoing Parliament session.
“But we got no response. The State BJP leaders have also failed to give us any satisfactory response,” he said.
