PANJIM: As many as 600 traffic police, including 17 Police Inspectors, have been deployed for the smooth movement of traffic for the ongoing nine-day novenas of St Francis Xavier (SFX) held at Old Goa.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Akshat Kaushal said, “Never in the history of Goa Police, were so many traffic personnel deployed for the security of an event. From 2.30 am to midnight, the traffic cops are on their toes. We have taken it very seriously as we do not want to see anybody facing inconvenience. And this too was done during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) as well.”
According to SP Kaushal, there are designated parking areas for vehicle parking (two wheelers and four wheelers) and only those who have been provided car passes are being allowed in.
There are eight designated parking areas with a capacity of parking 5,000 four wheelers and 10,000 two-wheelers at Old Goa.
“We have sufficient space for parking vehicles. The other parking places have been decided based on previous experience and in consultation with the Church authorities,” he said.
The nine-day novenas to St Francis Xavier started from November 25, while the annual fest will be celebrated on Monday, December 4.
