PANJIM: With 643 new cases, the State’s COVID-19 tally crossed the 28,000-mark on Saturday.
Of the eight deaths on Saturday, six were reported at GMC and two at ESI, Margao.
Earlier, a 12-year-old boy’s death due to COVID sent shock waves across the State even as GMC clarified the death was primarily due to cancer.
GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar said out of the 8 deaths, 2 patients expired within less than 24 hours.
“The 12-year-old paediatric patient is primarily a case of leukaemia with intracranial bleeding in whom COVID infection is an incidental finding,” Dr Bandekar said.
State’s COVID tally now stands 28,022 with 21,760 recoveries as 446 recovered on Saturday.
Active cases stand at 5920.
