69 migrants repatriated to K’taka

PANJIM: A total of 69 migrant labourers, who were refused permission in Karnataka, earlier this week, were on Sunday repatriated back to their native place.

North Goa District administration informed that all the 69 migrants, housed at shelter home at Vathadev Sarvan, Bicholim, were repatriated to their native place at Vijayapur District in Karnataka, on Saturday evening.

Bicholim Mamlatdar Pravinjay Pandit and his team handed over the migrants to the officials of Karnataka State at Keri check post. The migrants were ferried in KTCL buses.

Earlier this week, these migrant labourers were sent back by Karnataka administration due to confusion with regards to different requirements mandated by the two state governments.

Due to ‘technical discrepancies’ in their applications, the labourers were refused permission by Karnataka administration.

Over 80,000 persons have registered to return to their native places despite requests from the State government that Goa being a green zone is safe and has reopened for business. On Friday, a first special train with 1196 migrant labourers and tourists, left for Gwalior.
