PANJIM: Seven officers of the Goa Civil Service are promoted to the rank of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), with President of India clearing their appointments.
Menino D’Souza (2016), Narayan Sawant, Sanjit Rodrigues, Sanjiv Gadkar, Yatindra Maralkar and Prasad Lolaykear (2018) and Michael D’Souza (2019) are appointed in the IAS cadre of AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories).
Union Ministry for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training , in a notification issued on Monday, has said that “the President of India is pleased to appoint the members of the State Civil Service of Goa to the IAS against the vacancies determined by the Government of India on consultation with the State government on probation”.
The officers are appointed on probation until further orders and to allocate them to the joint AGMUT cadre.
Last year, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs had announced that Goa’s quota in the posts to be filled through promotion in the AGMUT cadre has been hiked from the existing 10 to 13.
The name of Goa Civil Service officer, turned politician Elvis Gomes of 2015, was also cleared by the selection committee of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), last year. However, Gomes has opted for voluntary retirement from State administration.
Currently, Menino D’Souza holds charge as Director Tourism, Sanjit Rodrigues is Commissioner of the Corporation of the City of Panaji, Sanjiv Gadkar is special officer for Mopa Airport, Prasad Lolayekar is holding charge as director of Higher Education, Yatindra Maralkar is currently posted as secretary Goa Public Service Commission, Michael D’Souza is the director of Goa Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development and Narayan Sawant is the joint electoral officer.
In 2016, three Goa officers — Sandip Jacques, Arun Desai and Swapnil Naik were the last three officers who made it to the IAS’s joint AGMUT cadre.
