PANJIM: Seven youth Congress members were arrested and soon released for burning the effigy of Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar after his controversial comment on the gang rape of two Delhi women tourists.
It may be recalled that the youth Congress had on Saturday burned the effigy of the minister but two of its members, including General Secretary Varad Mardolkar and Deepak Pai, had sustained burn injuries.
Pai was one of the seven that were arrested but was soon released. Mardolkar however is still recovering at the Goa Medical College (GMC) after his face was partially burned. A total of 28 youth were on Saturday booked for creating a public nuisance and for forming unlawful assembly in Panjim.
The police are currently looking to identify and arrest many who were at the site.
